Dan from Mission Science Workshop called us up and invited us to go hunting for whale bones near Pescadero. Some friends tipped Dan off to the remains of a juvenile humpback whale that had beached itself a few weeks ago. Kate and Michelle went along. We recovered some portions of the spine, some large fragments of the skull, and a few intact ribs. The most exciting find? We salvaged an entire rack of baleen! The recovered remains will make some nice additions to the teaching collections at Mission Science locations around the Bay Area.
Michelle and Kate took these pictures for your viewing pleasure.

The team did some spectating at the UCSF Amputee Comprehensive Training Basketball Camp. It was a one day basketball clinic put on in collaboration with coaching staff of the Golden State Warriors. AMP1 Basketball was there to get the crowd pumped. They are the only stand-up amputee basketball team in the US. Take a look through the gallery to see what went down. We had lots of fun helping out and talking to everyone this weekend! Photos by Jenny Qi and Kate Woronowicz The Bone Lab is going to be at the Second Saturday event at Mission Science Workshop in San Francisco. Students will be bringing in the bones from their Thanksgiving turkeys! We will clean up those turkey bones and use them to learn all about the anatomy, evolution and biomechanics of one of nature’s most remarkable creations — flying vertebrates!
Not to toot our own horns, but Bone Lab Radio just received an Education Outreach Grant from the American Association of Anatomists (AAA)! This grant will support our community outreach programs, specifically helping us bring Whale Week to Cesar Chavez Elementary School in collaboration with Mission Science Workshop. In doing so, students at one of the most underserved schools in the San Francisco school district will have the chance to engage in exciting activities and discussions about comparative anatomy and evolution, while placing a particular emphasis on literacy. Funding from AAA will also contribute to the initial launch of our podcast
